Aug.3.
40 miles E. Puebla to 57 Km. E. Mexico City, Mexico DF.
PM drove to Puebla where we visited the market.
From there we drove to a point 57 Km. East of Mexico
City and camped for the night in a pine forest.
Aug.4.
57 km. E. Mexico City to 6 mi. NE Jacala, Hidalgo Mexico
Left camp about 8 AM. Saw Red Crossbill, Luncos, &
Chileadees about camp. Heard an unidentified
owl all night & Sol. Hummingbirds. Drove to Mexico
City and did errands until 1 PM when we left for the
North. Ate supper in Jacala and drove to the camp
where we stayed the night of July 18. Saw Bruano
Avolo and drove back to Jacala for some wine. Sat
around camp in the evening talking to Bruano. Set
16 traps and caught a frog. Heard Whip-poor-wills all night.
Aug.5
6 mi. NE Jacala to 2 miles SW Xilitla, San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
Left camp about 8:30 AM and drove to Xilitla. Saw a
glock of collared Swifts 20 miles north of Tamayundale.
Saw quite a few Morphos in the lowlands for 20
miles in both directions from Tamayundale. Drove
to Xilitla and from there to San Antonio where we
made camp by the road on the foundations of a
house. Set 16 traps and caught 1 peromyscus & one
other mouse and a Diadophis? (Reddish back & underparts).
August 6
San Antonio, 2 miles SW Xilitla, 2500', San Luis Potosi.
Skinned mice, banded and set traps (6 gopher traps) and
could not catch. In afternoon set 10 mouse
traps - mostly springy by rain - No mice.
