July 26 35mi. S. Chilpancingo to Pie de la Cuesta, 8mi. WNW Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico.
sinaloa. From there we drove to Acapulco & thence
over a dirt road along the coast to Pie de la Cuesta
which is on a strip of beach between the Pacific
Ocean & a lake surrounded by mangroves. On the
way we saw: Citolini Trogon, Magpie Jay, Acapulo
Jay, Turkey Vulture, Black Vulture, Cassidulus
melanicterus, White-winged Dove, Ground Dove,
Inca Dove, Boat-tailed Grackle, Deterus pustulatus
We drove along the road on the north side of the
lake (but not within sight of it) for several
miles & returned to "Todd's Place" where we spent
the night. Many Geckos on the walls & a small
leaf-nosed bat in our room (collected). The geckos
make a loud sort of purring note which can
be approximated by vibrating the tip of the tongue.
July 27 Pie de la Cuesta to 25 miles S. of Chilpancingo.
Took a heavy rowboat & small outboard motor
boat & went to the far end of the lake & back. Saw
a large iguana & several small ones (?) & the following
birds (* seen by road July 26th). Pied-bill Buteo, Brown
Pelican, Mexican Cormorant, Anhinga, Man-o-war
bird, Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, Louisiana
heron, American Egret, Snowy Egret, Black-crowned
& yellow-crowned Night Heron, Green Heron, Calavia
Tiger Heron, Wood Ibis, White Ibis, Roseate Spoonbill,
Black-bellied Tree Ducks, Lesser Scaup, Ternery &
Black Vultures, Caracara, Cat, Florida Gallinule,
