July 25 12 mi. S.Cuernavaca to 35 KM. S of Chilpancingo, Guerrero.
Phoebe, Aimophila acuminata, Cliff Swallow,
Canyon Wren, *Piaya mexicana, Sturnus pust-
ulatus, Aimophila humeralis, Black Vulture,
Orchard Oriole, Red-eyed Cowbird, Mexican Black
Hawk, Turkey Vulture, * Happy Wren, * Varied
Bunting, "Spotted Wren", Groove-billed Ani, Red-wing,
Colinus virgin. To where sp? (= nuttill?),* Volatinia.
Drove to Chilpancingo & stopped at the Hotel
Mexico to see Mr. & Mrs. Wilmot W. Brown who
entertained us with beer & crackers & showed us
some specimens which he had recently put up.
He uses moulds of tin or aluminum for his
bird skins & wraps them with thread after
lining the mould with cotton. They ordered
supper for us & told us many interesting
anecdotes about their experiences. We left
them about 10 PM & drove south for 35 km. &
slept in the truck by the road as it was raining.
July 26 35 KM. S. Chilpancingo to Piedra Cuesta, 8 mi. NW Aca pulco, Guerrero, Mexico.
Drove to a pass in the Pine Belt 25 miles S. of
Chilpancingo where we spent most of the morning
collecting birds & ferns. The birds present were (*not
seen by me): Turkey & Black Vultures, Mexican Goshawk
Sallei's Zual, Inca Dove, Amazilia violiceps, Sauarothia
vergilina, * Tityra semifasciata, Myiocharnes pertinax,
* Xiphorhynchus flavogaster, Aimophila subfascens,
Atlapetes pileatus, Monotus mexicanus, Thryophilus
