July 23 Mexico D.F. to 12 mi. S of Cuernavaca Morelos, 4500'
cut by a stream in a small canyon. Made camp
& set traps. Caught small Hyla & Saw many
Cnemidophorus & 1 Sceloporus.
July 24 12 mi. S. of Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico elev. 4500'
No mice (S.D. caught 2 Liomys). Stayed in Camp while
others went hunting. Watched 2 monstros mexicanus
in tree on other side of Canyon. Later crossed stream
& found that it disappeared in the rocks & reappeared
by a large pool 50 yards downstream. Also found a
cleft in the rocks about 2'x 20' where there were
many small bats. collected 2 & went around the
rock where I found another entrance to the cleft
& collected 5 more Bats. After lunch went for a
swim in the big pool. The water came out of the
ground into the pool from a cave with two
two entrances by the pool. Investigated the cave &
found it sloped up & had 2 entrances from dry
land. Came back later, entered one of these entrances
& collected a series of Vampire bats of which there were
a great number in the cave.
July 25 17 miles S. Cuernavaca to 35 Km. S of Chilpancingo, Guerrero.
Broke camp about 2:30 P.M. The birds seen at this camp were:
(*= not seen by myself.) Caracara, Black Swift, * Texas
Kingfisher, Mexican motmot, Centurus chrysopterys,
* Platypsaris aglaiae, Spinus psaltria, Turdus flavirostris,
* Broad-billed Hummer, Giraudi Flycatcher, Derby
Flycatcher, Couch Kingbird, Luca dove, * Black.
