July 17 Nuevo Leon, 20 mi. w. Sinares to 20 mi. w. Antiguo Morelos S.L.P. Mexico
drove further to a point above the bottoms
and camped by a fast-moving stream bordered
by semi-tropical vegetation Birds seen between
the Rio Frio & Camp were: Brown-bill Ani, Sharpe's
seed-eater, Mex. Cested Flycatcher, Mourning Dove,
Brown Jay, Centurus sp?, Green Parakeet, Road Runner,
Cassadix, Bob White, White-winged Dove, Red-
willed Pigeon, white-eyed Vireo, & Black Vulture.
Set 17 traps and caught one Pemmysus and one Liomys
(latter badly damaged by ants).
July 18 20 mi. w. Antiguo Morelos to 6 mi. NE Jacala 5000', Hidalgo, Mex.
Around camp between 6:30 & 9:45 AM we found
the following birds: Saltator aficeps, Red-cr. Parot,
Green Parakeet, Drives dives, Brown Jay, Dryobates
scalaris, Giant flycatcher, heard a trogon & a
probable tinamou. Also saw Thryothorus
maulipetus & Tanagra lutea (identified later
from notes). Tropical butterflies were abundant,
gathering on the damp shores of the stream & on
decaying fruits on the road, saw two Morphos.
Birds seen on the road between camp & Antiguo
Morelos on the way out (9:45-10:45 AM) were:
Cassadix, Sennett's warbler, Amblycercus, Derby
Flycatcher, Turkey Vulture, Black Vulture, Ibis
olivaceous, Deer (Sp?), Hawks (Butomagnisostri? )
& heard a vireo with a song like a red-eye. Drove
to the Rio Tampoan and saw the following birds:
