Restores 1941. Journal. 3. July 18. 20 mi. W. Antiguo hereles to 6 mi. NE Jacala 5000', Hidalgo, Mexico on the way: Cassadix, Mexican Crow, Caracara, Black Vulture, Road Runner, White-winged Dove, House-Wall Ani, & Couch Kingbird. At the Rio Tampax were Rough-wing Swallow, Mangrove Swallow, & Gray-headed Martin. Stopped at a point 33 miles south of Valles where we sawa Seedeater, Chamaethylpis, Tiaris olivaceous, Girard's Flycatcher, & Couch Kingbird. Camped off the road in the pine & oak belt 6 miles NE of Jacala, set traps, caught 2 Peromyscus. Went to two nearby grassy ponds & collected Rana and many ferns. (4 sp. Polypodium etc.) July 19. 6 Mi. NE Jacala to Mexico D.F. stayed in camp until 10:30 AM & saw the following birds: Phyllogonys, Black-headed Grosbeak, White-eared Hummer, Atrates pleatus (C.G.S.), Basileuterus rufifrons, Ruby-cr. Kinglet (?), Catharis aurantiicristis, Raven (C. coron), Turkey Vulture, Spotted Towhee, Red-sh. Eclides, Calif. woodpecker, Brown-backed Solitaire (Myiodynamaster obscurus) (gray breast, light brown back, buffy wing patch (females?) and a sparrow- like a Rufous-crown only paler (another race?). Also Audubon Oriole & a small dark wren with a superciliary (Nannarchilis leucogaster or Troglodytes muscincolis). Heard a Trogon @ C.G.S. sawa Turdus grayi. Between Jacala & Zimapas 10:50-12:30PM: Black Vulture, Turkey Vultures, Couch Jay, and White-eared Hummer.
