July 16 Harlingen, Texas to 20mi. W Sinares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico Left Harlingen early in the morning & drove to Hidalgo where we crossed into Mexico (Reynosa). Drove thence to Monterrey and from there to Sinares where we took a side road to the west which went into a canyon and eventually to Salinas. The road from Reynosa to Monterrey went through mesquite desert, from Monterrey to Sinares it was less arid and there were mountains to the west. Birds seen between Reynosa and Sinares were: Mockingbird, House Sparrow, White-necked Raven, Mourning Dove, Ground Dove, white-winged Dove, Cardinal, Boat-tail Hackle, Toxostoma curvirostre, Red-eyed Cowbird, Turkey Vulture, Black Vulture, Roadrunner, & Killdeer. Made camp by the road in the canyon about 20mi. w Sinares. Set 10 traps & caught 3 Peromyscus. There were many fireflies & a large variety of ferns. The vegetation was semi-desert, agaves, cacti, sycamores, & a large variety of small trees. July 17 20mi. W Sinares, Nuevo Leon to 20mi. W Antiguo Moulas, SL P, Mex. Left camp about 9:30. Birds found in the canyon were: Band-tail Pigeons, White-fronted Dove, Inca Dove, white-necked Raven, Canyon Wren, Cardinal, couch Jay, Black-a. Titmouse, Turkey Vulture, Couch Kingbird, Mockingbird, & Vireo (Heard only-sounds like a Red-eye) Possibly yellow-green Vireo.). Between the mouth of the canyon & Sinares (on Rt. I) in the thick mesquite we found: Brown
