Sequoia Natl. Forest, Kern Co., Calif.
Hwy 99. It was dark by this time so we decided
to drive south to Bakersfield and camp
somewhere in the Natl. Forest east of Bakersfield
so we would be close to the area we wanted
to trap the next night. Had dinner in
Bakersfield at ~ 9:30pm. Got to Live Oak Cpgr.
(Upper Richbar)
(east of Bakersfield on Hwy 178) at ~ 11:00 pm.
Mar. 28
The campsite is right next to the Kern River
at ~ 1500' elevation. Quite a lot of traffic on
Hwy 178 early in the morning. Apparently people
commuting from Lake Isabella to Bakersfield,
left the campsite at ~9:30am; drove along the 4 lane
freeway to the turnoff to Bodfish + Miracle Hot
Springs. Checked out the Hobs campground, then
drove on north on 178 past Isabella Lake, through
Kernville, and then north of Kernville towards
Johnsondale through more of Sequoia Natl. Forest.
Looked at habitat along the road as far as
Limestone Cpgr., then turned south again
and set traps on the way back.
