Hastings Reservation, Monterey Co., Calif.
Mar. 24 Left home at 8:50 am. Mileage 30884. Picked up Sue Case at 9:00 am. Arrived Hastings 12:00 noon. Mileage 31027. This is the first time the 1st & 2nd crossings in the driveway have been dry.
40 traps Went out at 1:00 pm to set in Madrone Canyon. Set 61-80 along Big Creek, which is dry. Set 81-90 on moist hillside above creek. Set 91-100 under dead branches of live oaks.
40 traps Set 20-60 on hill behind Davis house. 41-60 in chaparral near Red House in chamise + ceanothus. 21-40 around garage, edge of oak, up through chaparral above chinchilla house.
40 traps Set 40 non-folding Shermans at J. Bell's ranch along Finch Creek, which does have water in it. 41-50 down hill in live oaks. 51-60 along creek. 61-80 upstream along creek within 3 meters of water. Finished there at 4:30 pm. Sue helped with the last 20 after checking J. Bell's fish pond + creek for Rana aurora - didn't find any.
40 traps Set 40 folding Shermans in grassland next to Pearson's Field where Calhoun line is. Traps set in Myers Field? 1-10 and 101-130 in two parallel lines (1-10, 101-110 closer to creek; 110-130 above or hillside).
20 traps Set 10 non-folding Shermans from Lower Barn and Sue helped me set 5 around barn and 5 along fence row. Then set 10-20 around labs + bunkhouse.
