M.F.Smith 1976 JOURNAL Queen Bee and surrounding area, Los Padres Natl. Forest, San Luis Obispo Co., Calif. Aug.12 Left Hi Mtn, at 11:30am. Drove out past Pozo to Sta. Margarita Lake for gas + ate our lunch there; Drove to Queen Bee Campground but decided not to camp there because it was a tiny site and noisy neighbors. Started setting traps on the dirt road out from Queen Bee towards main road at 3:15pm. 20 Set 61-80 closest to Queen Bee in chamise, manzanita, live oak shrubs. 30 Set 31-60 in chamise chaparral with sage, some manzanita, scattered live oaks. 20 Set 80-100 along main road between Queen Bee turnoff & La Panza campground in chamise with yucca + a few [illegible] pines. 25 Set 1-25 non-folding Sherman's at La Panza Campground at edge of chaparral with chamise, scattered pines + live oaks. 20 Set 20 folding 21-30 & 130-139 (incl #6) at 1927', at Navajo cutoff, 2 mi from Navajo Campground. Drove to Carl Roford's shack near Ian McMillan's house south of Shandon to stay overnight. 20 We set 20 traps around the buildings there. 135 Just going to bed when Carl Roford, Jim Griffin, and Carla Roford arrived. They were a day earlier than expected.
