M.F. Smith 1976 JOURNAL Hi Mountain, San Luis Obispo Co. ~3000' Aug. 11 Left Berkeley at 9:30 am with Bonnie Bowen for trip to Southern California. Mileage 33153. Stopped at Pozo Ranger Station to find out about campgrounds. Got to Hi Mtn. Campground in Los Padres Natl Forest at 3:30 pm. Mileage 33392.0. Started setting traps at 4:30 pm in chaparral 1.3 mi NW of Hi Mtnr. Camped, (lynd). 20 Set 41-60 at edge of chaparral patch with chemise, ceanothus, shrub with 60 yellow flowers. Set 60 more folding traps farther up same road, ~.3 mi before lookout station 21-40, 1-20, and 61-80. 9 Set 31-39 in small canyon on N facing slope with level, Poison Oak, rocks in dry creek bed. 20 Set 81-100 in live oak woodland under trowed branches. 15 Set non-folding shermans 6-20 in dry canyon with sycamore, Madron, at edge of chaparral down road towards Pozo from campsite (390.2) 1.2mi below camp 10 Set 10 non folding shermans in next canyon up road towards campground in dry canyon with dried up Maidenhair fern, poison oak, edge of grossland This canyon is 1.0 mi below campground. 15 Set 130-145 folding shermans at Hi Mtn. Campground in low brush + live oaks. Had dinner at ~7:45 pm. few bats flying in opening at edge of hill, at 8:20 pm heard owls calling. Sounded like 149
