Holmes, R.T. 1964 C. melanotos 6. 16 june Barrow, Alaska Rectrd activity increasing. 87 are settled densely (in 2-3 yrs, 10 - almost equal to last year's pop at least in local areas) (i not on/ Pitelka's plat). Chasing of 87 by 87 is seen very frequently. Also 1st dawn / at 4 by 1 to 6 am many as 48 87. Several ground courtsip sequences seen & photographed today. At least 2 flocks - 6, 18 birds - seen - Nathena May 1 - cirlat moss - looked like mostly 87. - male arrives probably. 17 june Several small flocks (3-6) of 87 seen (which appear to be newly arrived + not well developed chat area - is probably young 87 arriving (2 see sitting together - 1 obs being chased by resident 87). 1st gave ground courting to 87 white-rump - not full display but tail arched & several grumbled 87-ao-time. I've seen it before (4 - to which he had been displaying on 2nd early + also had flown low over her + hosted). - So he may have gotten mixed up a while he was after? Second brood 44 - pivots laying or in recently completed clutch 18 june Several Small flocks ( 4-7 ind. See also N.B.R. - settled - busy chasing Run groups (seems to be congregated mostly 1st yr. males - it not well clear. Mount).
