Holmes, R 1963 C. melanastos 64. 26 July Barrow, Alaska Of 2 non-flyer chick collected at the south end of central moraine. For the amount of time + area travelled - relatively few groups / chicks were observed on a daily basis they seem rather scarce, but yet they are caught relatively frequently in the traps. Only 1 $ seen between Brittan's Area & the insect plots. 28 July Two flying immature seen in lower footprint Lake. A flock of 6 & PS, 3EBT760 - were feeding along the west side / the lake in relatively well drained habitat. No flocks were seen on the Derravich census plot - only single $% at nest - marked - census sheets. Nest # 44 & 47 was still intact - but the latter one contained cold + wet eggs - so it may be lost (as I was present there). At mid 432 while Three days ago had on eggs starting to crack now contained 3 young + 1 egg with no sign of hatching. 29 July None seen in the Oak area - insect area. In afternoon, a $ with 1 chick located 20078 west of Brant Point in wet marshy ground. No other chicks were present. No other birds of our species seen in afternoon's travel.
