RTH 1963 C. melanoto 32. 25 jun Barrow, Alaska This prevented my obtaining a good census - m mark 40-curve. 26 june Several flocks along Elson Lagoon between Brant P2 + Coobschlag Slough - 8ru1 groups 9, 7, 7, 5 + Sen/ 2-3. all seemed to be 88. Some chasing by settled birds was evident but the chasers were not prolonged a excelling approacher. The 8' chased & flushed the flock - then would return to his feeding activities & after the flock would also return to its same general area and after a minute or so, the 8' would again chase. repeat the above sequence. Occasionally during its return, the settled 8' would make a partial circuit of his territory, performing the aerial whooping display. Three 88 were spaced out along the mark shore 1 tsn. one was chasing a flock / 488'. Scattered group 12-7 were along the central marsh side / near ridge In afternoon, a flock / 6, 4, + 3-4 88' in area south / 1st Arm + No. 1 Footprint.
