Holmes 1963 22. C. melanotes 21 june Barny Blake He keeps one wing held at the surface for ½ sec - less. This wing is usually drooped to the side & but may still have slight function to the $. Does her tree see for 3 or 4 different birds. Upon landing when chasing $ (B chase ?). $? feeding in grassy areas, were seen to lower themselves into the grass when a $ (territorial boom) display or in chase (another $?) comes flying over. On $ watched for 30 min - during this time she was continually pestered by 1-4 $?. She would fight fed, then $'s would land near her & start ground courtship. If she went to complete (i.e. without disturbance from other $?) - as she took flight - followed by the $? - at this time the 2 were joined by 1-3 other $? for territorial adjoining territories + all would swoop around an area / locus (over determine ? all 3 or $?) - low over ground & circling to a 100' feet or more. The $ would land followed by the $? - who would run towards her & then she would hop up, land a few feet away & the whole thing would be repeated. The behavior of the $? in these chases is not clear.
