16 june Barrow Alaska
Several displayers never meet pack. One
nest with 4 eggs incubating. Located -
side 1 Snail polygon, 30' W of 1 Pond A.-
Mass- like canvas pidgee - with screech
grass - egg were 95% exposed - for
grass block projecting above each
egg. 9 fluttermill with ruffled
fold feather - wings out at the sides
fluttering, tail fanned & depressed.
Twice M & when feeding away from
the nest (because of our presence) was
countered by a ? who landed near her
after he finished a territorial display.
He walked up behind her - with tail
cocked + wings drooped - given, a
modified hoat = kur-aw- kuran,... She
raised her posterior end slightly + walker
on - He followed for 5 seconds -
Then foot flys, chasing another
? - He returned about a minute
later & repeated the same sequence.
She paid no attention - except for the raising
The foil & wings + he never did mount
her. - Evans - The fact that she was
incubating a completed clutch & that
he was still making display actions
is significant.
