Holmes,R 1962 Erolia melanotos 24 June Barrow, Alaska duck height 1 moss. When 1st approached - No 8 (largest "cheetz") was standing just 1' away. As I came closer - No 8 flew out apparently off the nest, landing 60' away. Nege feeding - no distractive behavior was given. I looked off & watched - after 10 min - No 8 had fled slowly & normally around in a loop circle, ending near where I had flushed her. Then she ran on foot stopped, fed - ran again - showing - a little more sign of a nest nearby & finally settled in the cup. When she was flushed by him - she flew off 3' - circled and walked off Through the grass. No 8 at that time flew & landed near - apparently trying to mount - but she kept moving off - He gave two "aggressive gurgles" - then off he - stalked - He followed with more gurgles - finally she landed & he flew off & gave a loud display. - Apparently in pectoral eggs laying so just getting underway. West of the Wannaga - a flock I saw 30 80's were found feeding - no storm any aggression. A settled to display Nearly - but did not get close to the figure - settled head. He flopped moved a wing.
