Eolica melanotos
11 July Barrow, Alaska
♀ was still on her nests near the insect plot - no sign of hatching yet.
13 July Now seen in Central Marsh, m B.R., or between Wohl & Oliphant Sloughs. The
♀ was still incubating at the nest near the insect plot.
Apparently all 8♂ have left. None have
been seen since 9 July.
14 July A flock of 5 seen W. of the insect plot
in the marshy areas. - 3 collected -
molting heavily (body - no wing or
tail molt).
15 July 1 large adult was seen near the insect
plots. 1♀ and 2 young were
encountered near 0.01 T-line IVA.
The young were tube for R. Zusi.
16 July - The nest near the plots contained 1
wet down young + 3 pipiing eggs. No
others seen.
17 July None seen.
21 July 1♀ seen near Volk's Tree. No young!
26 July 1♀ with chick seen in the lower end of
Footprint Lake. - The chick was dead. - See FAP
+ apparently had a hat - (and I saw
bird - saved) A group of 3♀ seen
along the shore at Horseshoe - feed
in recent grass areas.
