4 June Barrow, Alaska
The courtship posture, as described above &
proceeded to circle her in good complete,
relatives even circle.
Finally he came up to her; she
jumped into the air flew about 3 feet, landed, &
resumed feeding (she had not stopped feeding while
the 8" was performing & was paying no
attention to him). The 8" waddled over to
her; this time causing her to fly off to
30-40'. Both within the stage to feed & no
more courtship was seen. The 8" was
collected (1085).
Apparently, even though a 8" is attached
to an area or two 8" in that area, she
still is counted as possible in display
until she is receptive.
5 June 2089 & apparently 1 8" - seen along the 1/8. Short-
Whalechug Slough. All were feeding together - no
courtship was going on. They would feed up to
each other, but each ignored the other. There
may have been transient who are not courted
yet. (or This may have been a young or
slowly developed 8" & not a 8).
6 June Occasional single 8" were seen today
between Both's & Skroovik. Only 2 we
seen in courtship display - one in group
