29 July Barrow, Alaska
None seen today in the area east
of the gasoline.
2 August - Small flocks & numerous
individuals were present on Footprint
Lake today. Most of these birds
were in the northern half of the
lake & even feeding in the wet
areas. (Estimated 200+ birds were
present). These represented both
♂♀ & ♀, most of which were
undergoing a body moult. Several
flying juveniles were also
present (1 collected). None were
seen in the tundra near Roth's
Area.
3 August Barrow = S. Barrow 3, Alaska
The numerous birds at Footprint
Lake were again seen. Nearly
other preforms noted during trip
was one & which was
performing a distraction display
at Dry Dange mart, (Mile No. 1)
S. Barrow 3. Her young were not
seen. It seems likely that
most of the young birds now are
fully grown and flying. Their
number should increase in the
