Holmes, R. 1960 "Erolia" melanotus 31 may Barrow, Alaska war feeding. 1 june Barrow, Alaska 1 lone individual seen near Elson Lagoon: collected. Two other males seen with same vicinity - together. Not noted. 2 june Barrow, Alaska One heard displaying near Voth's area, but The bird could not be located. 3 june Barrow, Alaska One male seen "booming" along Elson- Lagoon. A few minutes later in this same locality a flock of 48, + 29 individuals began feeding. The display- male became excited & began announcing frequently. This was accomplished by below flight over the tundra with cheet inflated & by giving the booming call. The flock showed no reaction to this. De 8? Then flew while flock, landed & began chasing the various birds. The chase was first on the ground, then a long chase in the air. Somehow he would chase all or number of the birds at once or sometimes individuals. This went for about 20 min during which time many pursuit took place. During the chase The throat was not noticeably inflated.
