15 July Barrow, Alaska
Lake and also on the lower end of
The lake bottom. These are the first
birds that I have seen which, liking the
drained lake. They were feeding in the
floated areas and were seen in the
afternoon and evening. Several
low females were seen south of the
lake and two broods were seen and
handled (on 14, on 12). The nest near
AACS hatched late yesterday or early
this morning. Two of the young were
found about 20 feet away from the
nest site. There was no distraction
display by the female, but she became
very excited.
19 July Barrow, Alaska
There groups 1 male were again seen
in the same locations along the gasolin
road. There appeared to be more
in The lake bed, as groups were
flushed more frequently from the tall
grass.
20 July Barrow Alaska
One large group was observed at the South
and 1 foot print Lake at 1100. It contains
about 60-70 birds which were feeding
among the flooded patches here. [illegible]
