C. bairdii
11 June Barrow, Alaska
Bird displayed low (15') with flappy flight, then gliding
on down-curved, non-beating wing - gave brief +
linedel - keeping wing up near vertical +
then raised tail to 90°, gave a 3 sec brief
lateral wing (which had been merged) + then
round the right (the right was put out first -
before the other was lifted) - each in (in
about 4 sec) - tail still arched - the
bird in a hurrated posture but head
was up. When 50 flew as in display, the
bird raised both
wings to vertical +
gave rapid tail
notes - the lower left wing sank to
resting position.
Late 5 birds involved in a chase, moved
high (180-190') closely together - 10' apart at
most - 2 moved off together - both -
flapping, low display - another
the pulled off + displayed - while the
2 remaining went out 1 left.
Tentand boundaries seem indistinct
at this stage - at least when chase
begins. They all join in + cross boundaries,
cutting together - finally to move off.
Whether or not only 5 were involved - the
precenten; all birds involved seemed to have.
