Holmes,R 1963 C. bartrici 2 June Barrow, Alaska with both wings raised, giving both call (chill) notes. They both flew to the near polygon. He continued with the tail cocked, crewing up. The lower (wings?) began feeling (at least feeding motion?) left tail raised; freely lowered tail & both birds fed. The probably were courtship act - with the ♀ showing no response at this time. call notes - here 1) high-pitched, curious churr note (chrrr chrrr) was given when he had both wings in air (vertical) following behind ♀ (sometimes with double inflection - dâ-ré,... 2) low-pitched nasal hiiil - given by a ♂ when alone & inflight or part the aerial song & in the "courtship" posture -------- 3) harsh, uneven, trill - given in chase or on ground as part (The ground "courtship" activity 4) In air - a song - a whine, swangy trill - three three zhreee zhreell. Several chases. See - call note given was usually to unreceptive, non-mating individuals they were brief, parts of the sound - Churr was never heard in chase.
