3 June Barrows, Alaska
I heard displaying near the brock ridge.
4 June - 3 seen chasing near VOA's Area & in Britton's Area.
5 June Several noted Between Britton's & VOA's Areas. One courtship display was bluff-like. The display
corbed his tail, lowered wing(dropped)-at speed,
head held about normal & the ran off. The 2 -
who kept on feeding. This was uninterpreted shots
& both birds flew off.
8 June - Pr. observed S.E. of Britton's Area on The greasy
bluffs overlooking family lagoon. When 1st seen, 1
bird (hereafter referred to as the 03) was displaying
30' off the ground. After 30sec.-so, he landed
& began to feed. Gradually, he worked
his way along a old caved out rut & the
suddenly settled into a depression, which
apparently will be the next site. He continued
to squirm around, shuffling back & forth, apparently
mating down the grass. He would lower down
so that his tail & abdomen were up in
air & he would scrape or press down with
the lower chest again. The wings were
spread slightly, but probably put
in to allow the body full contact with
the ground. To begin with he was
fairly embroiled; I didn't think he
began to turn. He would stand up
