C. fascicollis
23 June Barrow, Alaska
♂PS-gave ♂WR (who had just received
a ♂WR grand display) - a ground courtship
with his tail cocked, head up - draw-ka-rr
coo - she kept - fudling - he ran away,
he followed for sev. feet & then foot flutt.
left < ♂WR gave - grand display to
a 4 PS.
♂#11 - with two nests - his territory -
gave a nest cup display 25 yds west of Nest
#4 (ie between 4+7). He entered the cup
& stood over, scraping over for feet. Alternated
for 5 sec - then settled in on cup with tail high,
rotated once, stood up, picked grass,
tried several times - then he moved away -
always looked cautious - peeped around my
presence. North WR nearly at my
junction - but nests not an incubating
bird. Earlier - a ♂ was found near the
phone poles - wounded by an ♂ - but may
have been from one of the nests. The fact
that he is still nest scraping &
giving the ground display to me - is further evidence for low
pair bond. Also ♂#6 seconds later
& gave - or at least not - in case 1 Nest 3 -
i.e. ♂+nest with no ♂ nearby.
