RTH 1964 C. fuscicollis 13 june Barrow, Alaska PS - chasing (or?) (un-sure asset, Dr PS - Dr guybe chose not) - then a male joined & garnish a set wings as all 3 landed. - fed for a minute - the Dr 1st one who had bee chased flew up, the 2nd up - w my flasher toward it - the 3rd (under 150' away, walked into an area of thick grass & settled onto a nest! - Walked up to it - The male stayed on it until I was 8' away. Then flur// - with a slow wing beat - landed gave a mild distastatic dip. - tail lowered fanned, hundred picture with back feathers ruffled. - wings dropped almost to the ground - shuffling off - giving a short, hip pitched not fast, or fast. Nest - contained 3 eggs - lined with loose (fluffy-texture) lichens & moss - (it appeared to be picked apart) - an large flat polygo - mainly centre - not due in many other nut was licked. - 10% one by surrounding vegetation (grass- side blades). - Therefore - the displaying bird was not on the nest - but the other was - with one more egg yet to come. The was the same P who had been yesterday to give 3 nest-scraping displays. - Either in are used in pair-bond matters & therefore may continue three egg-laying; or if the pair-bond is loose they may aid in altricial offspring - ???
