10 June Barrow, Alaska
To another. After supper - another bird
shelled in a carted wrigg + [illegible]. On
main display, The female & chased the newcomer
The plump males were collected (subadult).
At least 78 aggressive males.
In evening, we displaying on Voth's bluff -
100 yds NE 1 cake-eater site.
11 June North N.B.R. - bird on ground (a lotr display) -
wing flared to 8 PPS flying over. Seven minute
late when 2 PPS went chasing are run -
he took flight - flew up & 30' + glided
down on set wipe, from the wing. Lander-
walked 20' warm sound feeding steps
+ he settled with a cup - surrounded by tall
grass - I could barely see his head or tail -
turned around twice & settled down (via,
tail raised high (almost to vertical)) -
The stood up - stepped out, moved 1
sw. steps + flew, gave a flight up to 30'
+ a glide back to the ground
(no hovering at peahi (tree display)
This nest-scratching was not performed
long enough to or intensely, as both
conspicuous females with other species -
but it was a weak attempt at nest.
The bird eventually moved a bit, since it had
previously displayed (role did so after); no focus
