M. F. Smith 1975 Hastings JOURNAL Aug. 8 his property again. Went out at 4:15 pm to set traps. Drove to J. Bell's, E of Hastings gate by road. Set 41-60 and 21-40 large folding Shermans along Finch Creek in Calif, laurel, live oaks, poison oaks, rocks. Set 61-80 and 81-100 in Madrone Canyon along creek and up north facing slope. Set 1-20 on hill above Davis' house. Set 1-20 small folding Shermans around big barn. Set 20-30 pm. around bunkhouse, 30-40 around unsafe barn and labs. Finished setting traps at 8:30 pm. just getting dark. Total 100 large + 40 small + 3 more small in kitchen. Max Fri 98° Max. Sat. 92° Min Fri night 58° Min. Sat. night 50° Went over to Hastings cabin at 9:00 to visit Rocky and hear about his Mountain and Valley Quail work. We heard great horned and screech owls. Had seen 2 chucks earlier while setting traps. Went to bed at 10:15 pm. Aug. 9 Up at 6:15 am. Want out at 6:45 to check traps.
