M.F. Smith 1975 Russell JOURNAL July 30 In small canyon at base of chaparel under laurel. 95 Peromyscus truei 97 Peromyscus truei In grass near pond #4 Microtus In pines; nothing. Finished checking traps at 10:00 am. Helped Bonnie with her Microtuses until we ran out of tubes at 12:30. Drove back to Berkeley at 1:00 and processed the 15 animals. One, #30 was dead and just got tissues from it. Finished spinning blood at 5:45 pm. Went home and had a quick supper, then Gary and I left to set traps at Russell. Mileage 28092. Arrived at 7:15 pm. Took #1-20 away from grass + pines & set them instead in a canyon east of the canyon with laurel trees. Reset 81-90 in laurel canyon same base of chaparel as last night. Moved 8 from chaparel up to top of ridge above chaparel patch near 78. Reset traps in oaks. Finished at observatory at 9:00, then went down to release Bonnie's Microtuses - quite dark by then. Got home at 10 pm. 28122. July 31 Left home at 7:30 am. 28122. Got to Russell at 8:00 am. Checked traps in canyon east of laurel canyon.
