F. Smith 1975 San Diego JOURNAL July 21 Wooded Hill site 2: 1.1 mi. from Sunrise Hwy. #49 Peromyscus boylii 56 Peromyscus maniculatus 57 P. [illegible] maniculatus Wooded Hill site 3 1.5 mi. from Sunrise Hwy; Nothing Finished checking traps at 10:30 am. Since there were no B. truei there we decided to go back down to Boulder Oaks campground to try for more P. californicus & P. maniculatus. First we checked out Leguna campground, but vegetation there was about the same. Went on the Desert View nature trail. One very small patch of pignon pine there, but apparently they are rare on the mountain, and seem more on the slope down to the desert, although we hadn't seen any the day we drove as far as Live Oak Springs. Arrived at Boulder Oaks at ~2:45pm. It is hotter today than before and we decided to wait until later to go out to set traps. Went out at 5:00 pm to set in chaparral along Bear Valley Road. Checked mileages again. Boulder Oak grove is 0.7 mi. from Buckman Springs Rd. Upper chaparral site is 0.6 mi. from gate lower chaparral site 0.5 mi. from gate to Buckman Springs Rd. Set 100 large folding Sherman in chaparral.
