Townsends Solitarie
West Branch Main
Malatina
16 December
Zuni Indian Reservation, Tonto Canyon, 6400ft.
1938
M'Gale Co New Mexico
Bright, sunny day ^so, light air, high series clouds. Heard Townsends solitarie as we descended into the canyon sandstone and Jay Fir. The call note is a clear high tone (vct#) can be repeated in succession but not hold long. Its call is a clear, brilliant "Whoopdee-doo!" rising at the end, dying in pitch in the middle.
John Crocket said that they hold territories all winter long so they will sing regularly.
