with, 9 1939 Journal 129 The Sea Ranch, Emily No Stewart Point, Sonoma Co, Caly 1097 22 oct The drive starts out in coastal redwood canyon. The turns up in altitude to drier scrub oak and madrone at finally ends in wine country. We stopped at Johnson's vineyard (terrible wine) and at another part (E) of johnson & think it was redwood vineyards which had a very nice shwartrium ($16 per split.) we took 128 out of Geyersville to St. Helena. We stopped at Henry Evans botanical print shop on Pine street (go left W blk off of 128). Pine st is one of the 1st streets in town (at the Police station). We then went N on 128 to do some wine tasting. Most vineyards were closed at 4:30 pm. we stopped at Folie a deux. A small vineyard N of Hwy on E side of road. Very nice 1986 Chardonnay. We tried to go to Sterling Vineyard (looks like elaborate teen with a trav) but they were closed at 4:00. Went to Beringer which is S of Folie a deux on 128 just before turn on W side of road. They were open until 5:00 pm. Wine was average, but had lovely gardens ad restaurant looked nice. We then went back to St. Helena S on 128 to Dansk shop which is on W side of road on S side of town. We all a wonderful Italian dinner at Tra Vigne which is directly across the street from the Dansk store. I had perth ravioli & mother had chicken. He had great biscuits ad breads. Reservations were a good idea. we ate at 6:00 and then headed back to Sea Ranch. Long day
