uth, 8 1984 Journal 75 Russell Ice Reservation, 2mi NW Lafayette, Contra Costa Co., Calif. (3189) April 0624 hours arrive at Russell, too late to catch FW/BL who mate again but she eluded me. She has been calling from end of Posgrave and also gurg calls in large canyons I did not wrent(2) a Golden-crowned Sparrow. Her behavior would indicate she is nesty. At 0800 hours I took down the net and started obs on FW/BL 4th pair. They were very gregarious, nitty in thistle patch until 0925 hours. It was quite warm after this storm but not so humid as yesterday. There is a good! Keep. Saw Shaggy fly w over the canyon. Also saw Red-tailed fly 0730 hours in canyon. At 1000 hours I found the Stry Sparrow nest of FW/BL pair, I had observed I with nesty material as I tapped away thru their territory. Pair became agitated flew in from thistle patch as we be about to me I located the nest. I walked beyond the nest at 15 minutes finds were quiet. I decided to walk back (5) 45 yds to where I had lost the F with stuffy in her mouth. As I did, I spotted the nest. 1Y2' high off ground in low lying prickly bush ~ 2 cubic feet. The bush is 2Y2'g w of tailed wire when I flagged. The area is opposite the small pine grove. I put doz- aves around nest.
