9/8, J 1989 Journal 66 Santa Cruz Island, 25 mi W Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Co., California 23 Mar Bishop Pk. On the high ridges there were only low grassy plants (1') we walked W to th middens at The sun broke thru at the peaks. The middens were in a large cave 20yds by 6' high(at entrance) [illegible] Abalone shells were all scattered over the area it was ~1900 ft in elevation just up th valley from Twin Harbors. We left th Middens at 3:25pm and headed S just to th W of high peak following the old fence. At the peak we spotted the Nature Conservancy cabin and headed E down slope (heavy th valley with th fence) we went ESE until we hit th road just at the hill with the Nater conservery cabin. Looky NW from Natur Conservey cabin into th highest peak th middens are to the W in th valley ~ 200yds from top. The valley echoes Tremendously ~ 5 times before it becomes inaudible. We returned to station at 5:15 pm. This was a strenous day's hike but well worth the effort. If th day had been clear, more water would have been situated.
