Calif. 22 Mar The gorge to inject the deeper pools. we found many (4) w/ beautiful waterfalls and holes in the stone. The pools on average were 10' wide and 4-5' deep. They were cleared cold. Black Phoebes were territorially displaying at the rocky edge of the pools they gave sharp "cheep" and another would fly in from 10' above dive bombing Chris and I sat waist deep in a pool and ate lunch (Burrito, Beans, Bacon, tomato and lettuce) Candy and Chocolate Chips). Then we climbed up the gorge until ~1:30pm then climbed out of the gorge and walked 5 back to the Road. Then we met Ken, Liz & Bob and we took another dip in the man-made pool. It was all quite refreshing. The gorge was lined with Bachman willow, willowy branches and long leaves I recognized say spanios, Beechn's Wrens and Orange-crowned Warblers today. Then we may 55 call at station Pool and drove many in the dead hemlock wood 5 of Station. Very dark birds. Back at Station by 4:20pm Walk to wash takes ~30 minutes easy walking.
