uth, J 1985 Journal 53 Santa Cruz Island, 25 mi W Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Co, California 2/1 No Sparrows were on the beaches predominantly. I heard field sparrow calls at good cheeps The birds were swart with dark plumages. I also saw some Say Sparrows in th Old cattle farm area just E of Forney Cove Ranch House. Rob was at the house he said that Nature Conservancy had secured the pip ad that th estimate was +10,000! The Nature Conservancy is plenty extortion but Rob is arranger or fantotata of ninety trips so he is ambivalent. On the Becky Pins along the Ridge I heard Rufus-sided Towhees, Scrub-jay not much else. At Forney cove there was short-grass with golden flowers and profiate Bachanis. Horned larks and water lizards were prevalent on the plain down by th Ocean, Black Oyster Catchers (4) 5 2pcn. Western Gulls, Pelagic Cormant (Breedy Colony) Buddy JuniStone. As the flock (~6) Turnstones flew up from the Beach there was plam five Squeaky and a very dramatic Blacked White Back patter on th Throat looked black. On th Jeep ride back from Forney Cove we spotted Two Santa Cruz Ankle foxes. These dogs were short- legged and fat. They looked like lazy Shelties. They were grey on back red underneath with burly grey at head Tail which was as long as the body. Face was grey marked Black attire.
