7/8 1989 journal 48 Russell's Farm, 2 mi NW Lafayette, Contra Costa Co. Calif. 94549. 4 March Out at Russell to set up some feeder stations. Put Saffoy Cardinal Chow (1.39 5 lbs) at wood pile near fenced in pond. Also at mulberry bush set up pile at the bath tub end near well spray. At this spot I heard a full male call followed immediately with no break a female singing. Then there were some "chirps" this was at 7:00 am. The weather is overcast and sprinkle-y. I have heard 2 other Song Sparrow full male calls up the hill ~150yds. One sounded like it came from that area of W ridge I tried to net at earlier. Rain hard now, almost like sleet. I took tape refuge in the back of the State wagon (9:37am). Bird List: by Nature 6 I - faded Seath Ann Flicker Keeler's Jay semit Jay T-titmouse Brown Creeper golden-crowned Song Sparrow 5 Mar 7:30 pm take 22 minutes to get from home to Russell. I re-stocked the feeder stations with Chick Feed from Lucky Pet, near the cafeterias (514 Arston ad ?) on University Rd side of road. 55 are coldy heard chirping from mulberry S side. F TV's soaring in very overcast, slight drizzle winds from NW ~10-15 mph. G is mulberry just called 7:49, thought I heard a quail from N in return.
