ith, J 1994 Journal 2mi NW Lafayette 4/1 Russell Tree Farm Contra Costa Co. Calif. 1300ft. 10 Feb E of the W ridge with th Live Oaks. Last week I saw Song Sparrows in that corner - this morning I picked "at the Mulberry brush I saw 2 Song Sparrows pop out of the th dead hemlock on th SW border ~ 10yds N of road. Yesterday, Tom Smith lent me ~ 6 nets, one brand new and 5 tried at time. I am using my 2 aluminum pole nets for th first time so far so good. It has been very quiet, only birds heard were Scrub Jays and Rufas - Red-tail Towhee. Saw a large flock of Golden-crowned Sparrow in dead hemlock ~ 60yds S on Road from Mulberry brush. There must have been at least 20 individuals in ~ 3m² hemlock. They flushed from th ground into th bushes when I got ~ 15yds from them. Red-tail called "Hee RAH" from the conifer grove where I park my car. Robins is also seldomly in the same area. There is ice in the center but near the W edge of Mulberry brush. 9:41am at N most end of Live oak Midge TV is sitting on a fence post ~ 5feet off ground. Its head is quite red but dark around eyes and bill is white. Two flickers one & other a dow on ridge calling. White-breasted
