Journal 2mi NW Lafayette 39 Russell Free Farms, Corcha Costa Co., Calif. 1300ft 4 Feb in the Beachams along the W side of hill. Also saw 2 flickers and 2 scrub jays sitting on fence posts lining top of th ridge. The wind has pick'd up from th SW ~ 10-20 mph Along the ridge to the NW is a scene of live oak. Descendig to the E from that ridge is a gulley lined with Beacham ~ 50 yds long to the N side of trail at the ESE tip is tall Beacham. saw two song sparrows ad gave "sing" call, mixed with several Golden-crowd sparrows. Along E ridge 40 yds E of water hole saw & heard song sparrow in Beecham ~ 25' of the paint near (<4') from trail on N side of road. Another answered "Chug" call off 100yds to NE. 40 yds to N along the road found a Song Sparrow not calling but hopping in sunspot over ground (6") in a dead patch of poison hemlock.
