smith, j 1984 journal 36 Zuni Indian Reservation McKinley co. New Mexico [400ft. 16 Decem Awoke 6:40am Breakfast at Humble and Peet's Bartender, al as E.T. Charles Place is ~ 10 mile N of Zuni toward Gallup. Two children Ronald and Lee and a new one expected soon. First stop this AM ~ 8:00 am was for 5 sage Sparrows (sage flats along Rio Pescado) a drainage area actually outside of circle, no luck try again later 2nd step was canyon below the dam Had jumper and much Sage. Smelled wonderful. Weather was crisp (~ 10-30?) light wind from East but upper atmosphere blowing to East from West. Canyon is Basalt rock with cattail marsh at the bottom we heard and saw many rock dwelling sparrows, wrens and juncoes. Jalisco thornworts line the edge of marsh with alromay Rosita Olive (~15'). South on old 36 (Reservation B) to Pie Mesa. Past Conday 11:00 am ran into A.L.S. coming up out of the Mellon Canyon he had seen a yellow-bellied Sapsucker & W. G.Wike. We walked back down the canyon with him to see if we could see the Sapsucker. The canyon was sandstone with Grey Fir. May Serbi and psssy nut hatches. Heard sodolane (sp. acet.) and saw it too.
