6/24, J 1989 Journal 2mi NW Lafayette 23 Russell Tree Reservation, Cortina Costa Co., California 1300ft 1 June 6:48 am Overcast ~55°F Route: 580 to 24 to San Pablo Dam Rd to Bear Creek to Happy Valley Mileage 60811.9 9:51am No fledgling fledglings or nestlins. Some individuals have been quite vocal but no "chipping" or "bleeeping". The Orioles, towhees and robins are all tiny fledgling fledglings. Allens Hornss I think are nesting. I saw one well featured bird & the year it was awfully with another radio I believe was the adult. Three individuals were in the willow near the huge Hackberry patch on the W side of the road 250yds from where I park in the grave. Individual that I watched on 15 June is not Cally & around the area, to what I thought was Queen Anne's Lace but is really Poison Hemlock! Walked down along the W edge of the Hemlock patch in the Buckhas heard a "Chip" as a fledgling repeated with "Bleeeping" from the hemlock. I think the hemlock provides great cover for fledglings but I don't believe the sparrows nest there.
