10th, 8 1999 Journal 10 Russell Tree Reservation, Contra Costa Co., CA 15 Jun male moved back into Queen Anne's lace still on N edge of it. He called ~10-15 times in Bachanis ad then moved back to lace. He can add a very loud "Bluteeee" onto the end of his song. Flew back to Bachanis ~5 calls in lace. Second call started on high pitch (~1/3 high), 10:49 am male stopped calling and is out of sight. I have seen 3 Bullock's orioles fly by in the Oaks on SW side of ridge 18 mi at 2-4 or immes. Saw a Nuttall's woodpecker at the observatory and down in canyon where Bob obs on song sparrow. 10:54 male has sung only 3 intro notes no full song. It seemed like he was about 10m NW of the Queen Anne's but have not spotted him. He just gave three more into's 10:57. 10:58 or gave clean call sounds like he is in Queen Anne's again, but can't see him, still singing every 10 seconds. There are typical calls with 3 intro notes, clean strident but no Blute on end. 11:00 am will start climb down to car. ~6 Robins were in this canyon primarily in Oaks. Lots of Robin scolding not too much calling. Male SS was not in Queen Anne's lace rather 6' up in Bachanis bush just N of lace again. He is sitting wedged deep on unprotected dead snag. Bay trees at S end of canyon on ridge near road are fruity?
