from mile NE on Bear Creek Road from Carmel Potts, Custer Co., CA
from gate. at the NE end of Oursan Draw
found one adult, one juvenile and two unknown
individuals flying low (2') off the ground near
N bank in Tules and willows. Looked like
juvenile was following around an adult. Flying
very noisily. On Hampton trail flagged a nest
(probably last year's) at NE end of draw.
at Oursan found an abandoned grain nest
deep in the middle of thick Tules. The nest
was ~ 2' off the ground hugging down a fork
in a small willow (diameter 2"). Nest
was old and frayed but tightly woven with
grasses, approximately 4" across.

weather - few clouds ~ 50F 6:30 am. Tom W.
drove for assistance in nest searching. Bought
some bad hot coffee. Rallie Benfield to Oxford
to go ended to [illegible] fork to Wildcat Canyon to
Bear Creek. Nest found in Blackberries near
North East end of draw. It is abandoned
it has dead curled up leaves in it. It is
~ 1 foot off ground is made of dried grass
egg 4" diameter about 3" high. Within
3' of Baccharis and 10' of Poison Oak. 15'
from water.
