Smiley 193L Aug.4 Washoe Co., Nev. In area of (grante boulders in moraine-like pile 300 feet long, shot young marmot (Marmota flaviventris). Aug.5 Hunting early morning for Pikas. Obtained one (Ochotong princeps). Shot one Cassin Purple finch in area of lodgepole pine, red fir, and limber pine. Set 13 mouse traps 4mi. S Mt. Rose 8500ft., Washoe Co., Nev. in meadow rendered wet by several small streams running through it. Grass in lush profusion in spite of domestic 'sign' sheep in profusion. No trails of meadow mice observed. Aug.6 Nothing caught. Broke camp for last time. Drove via Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Auburn & Roseville to Berkeley, Calif.
