Smiley 1936 July 29 Lovelock and Rye Patch to El Dorado (cont.) Canyon, 6000 ft. Humboldt Range, Pershing Co., Nev. Set 40 mouse traps 40 paces apart up hillside with Artemesia 1 to 3 ft. high, Juniperus mottled in patches over hillside. Rock and gravelly soil. wouldn't take print of hobnails readily. July 30 Caught: 1 Peromyscus crinitus, 12 P. moniculatus, 4 Perognathus parvus. Shot Say Phoebe in flight over hillside. Shot 1 sceloperus near stream under aspers, cornus and Rosa. Shot Western robin on talus slope near Sagebrush. 40 traps left on slope for chipmunks; None caught. July 31 During night Caught 2 Perognathus parvus, 2 Reithrodonomys megalotus, 8 Peromyscus moniculatus, 41 Peromyscus truei truei. Set 26 mouse traps in semi-meadow of Sagebrush x grasses at: El Dorado Canyon 8000 ft. Humboldt Range, Pershing Co., Nev. Meadow with 5° slope to west and constituting the floor of valley between two shoulders of mountain. Meadow 300ft. wide. Set 3 rat traps in deserted house nearby.
