Smiley 1936 July 17 In traps caught 34 Peromyscus maniculatus, 2 Neotoma lepida, 2 Perognathus parvus, 1 Eutamias minimus. Left and reset 50 of the traps. Saw American antelope on plateau south of Valley; mule deer in quaking aspens below rim rock. Shot a Callospermophilus among boulders of rim rock, also 9 Eutamias amoenus. Evening: shot hoary bat from floor of valley, (Nycteris cinerea) July 18 In 50 traps left set caught 6 Peromyscus maniculatus, 1 Neotoma lepida. Shot 3 sylviaceous sp. July 19 Moved camp: via Ft. Bidwell, Cedarville, and Vya. Camped: ½ mi. N Vya, 6000ft. Washoe Co., Nev. Set 35 mouse traps in an area! 3 mi. N Vya, 5900ft. Washoe Co., Nev. This in area of wind-blown sand, brown in color. Accumulation of sand under Artemesia bushes. No prominent dune structure. General terrain flat. En route to new campsite picked up dead great horned owl at: NW corner Cowhead Lake, Modoc Co., Calif.; Juniper- Artemesia association.
