July 15 In traps set at: 2 1/2 mi. SE Hausen, 5200 ft.
washoe Co., Nev. Caught 12 Peromyscus
maniculatus, 1 Onychomys torridus,
4 Dipodomys microps. No traps set in evening.
July 16 Moved Camp. Drove via Cedarville and
Fort Bidwell to a point: 12 mi. Creek, 5300 ft., 1/2 mi. E
Calif Line, Washoe Co., Nev. Set out 75 mouse
traps on southern slope of valley (Slope 35)
and above rim of boulders which formed
rim of valley. On slope: Artemesia
predominant; dark, compactible soil with an
admixture of sand and small pebbles.
Occasional large boulders on slope had
rolled down as talus from rim rock;
boulders up to six feet in diameter.
Rim rock about 20 feet high. Of squarish
boulders up to 12 feet high in for-
stopping stones to the plateau above the valley.
This rim rock probably is an exposure
of basaltic columns now badly disintegrated.
Plateau south of rim rock with,
Picked up skull of Erethizon under Juniper.
Junipers spaced approx. 40 feet apart.
Soil: resembles fine clay washed in
on angular rocks - latter very abundant
3 inches in diameter up to 1 foot - flattish.
Artemesia present, not abundant. Traps
averaged 20 paces throughout these habitats.
