Smiley 1936 Rock Creek, 5000ft, Granite Mt., Washoe Co., Nev. July 11 Area where traps set with 30° slope; angular rock embedded in soil. Area of grass-bearing soil 3 times as great as area covered by rock. Small species of sagebrush sparse. One bush every 50 feet; a.a. spacing between bushes 50 feet. Caught 2 Perognathus parvus and 1 Peromyscus maniculatus. Probably traps set too late in the evening to make good catch. Drove with Hall to areas: (1) 3mi. E and 10 mi. N Gerlach, 4000ft., Washoe Co., Nev. Crust over sand-silt dunes indicated area flooded by water during recent months. Plants here: Sarcobatus and Artemisia. 15 traps set here, averaged 15 paces apart. (2) 1 mi. W 2 mi. N Gerlach, 4000ft., Washoe Co., Nev. Area sandy with some silt - not wind-blown sand, but would take imprint of foot nicely. This area traversed to get to a slope of granite boulders - light in color - size up to five feet in diameter. Sandy areas with Artemesia between boulders. 18 traps set averaging 10 paces apart. (3) 1 mi. N E Gerlach, 4000ft., Washoe Co., Nev. 40 traps set Traps set in two types: (a) where there were reddish lava rocks as outcrops and scattered as angular pebbles over the surface of hard sand. East-facing slope 20°. Artemesia 10 traps set major plant. (b) where a mixture of sand and dry lake silt made surface that took imprint of toenails. Artemesia major plant,
