Smiley 1936 Rheithrodonmys megalotus July 5 N side Sand Pass, 3950 ft, Washoe Co., Nev. Two specimens caught in area of fine, wind-blown sand. Terrain semi-flatish. Variation of only 15 feet in elevation where 45 mouse traps were set. Traps set in circle around a dune-like knoll with very gradually sloping sides. Sand light, grayish tan-drifted up to height of 6 inches around base of unidentified bushes. A major plant was Parosela lavender small a legume; small flowers, spinolate leaves, sturdy, semi-herbaceous stems. July 10 17 mi. W Deephole, 4800 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. In 50 traps set in Juniper association caught one. Terrain: flat, v-shaped, dry water course in which water periodically flows SW. Reddish lava rocks embedded in firm, gravelly soil. Dry grass present. This caught in meadow-like area 40 feet from Juniper tree. July 20 3 mi. N Vya, 5900 ft., Washoe Co., Nev. One specimen; terrain flat; wind-blowable sand brown, drifted under Artemesia bushes. Latter up to five feet high. July 25 1/2 mi. N Sulphur, 4050 ft., Humboldt Co., Nev. 2 caught on dune structure 15'x600'x100' of light tan windblowable sand, adjacent to similar dunes. Plants: Sarcobatus & Artemesia.
